The Lichtsteiner Foundation selects the most promising inventors and start-ups through direct networking with the sources of project ideas and start-up platforms in Switzerland.
The solutions developed by the start-ups are highly innovative and address a common health problem or a medical niche market with high potential. The pioneers have the necessary competences and backgrounds to deliver the technology for their solution and bring it onto the market.
The start-ups address a major and vital medical problem, which is well-defined and comprehensible.
There are unique, identifiable aspects that set them apart from what is currently offered in the specific field (e.g. a novel approach, potential to disrupt a market, completely different distribution channels, new partnership models). The pioneers have entrepreneurial characteristics, demonstrating strong visions, drive and motivation.
The Lichtsteiner Foundation uses a transparent and consistent selection process and exchanges views with experts in order to select projects for support. We abide by the principles of transparency and openness, have defined our own strict governance criteria and do not accept any cronyism.
IMPACT INVESTING
We finance early stage
start-ups by providing
funds in form of equity
We concentrate on investments in the early-stage phase, in order to help pioneers bring their inventions to life. The start-up solution enhances the patient’s quality of life, eliminates diseases or treatment needs. The growth financing of a venture is not the objective of the Lichtsteiner Foundation, but is in the hands of banks, venture capitalists and other organisations.
In this financial round, the start-ups evaluate their business ideas, the markets and competition for their solution or products and develop a realistic business model.
The Lichtsteiner Foundation always acts as a co-investor – not as the lead supporter – and never has an active influence on the activities of the start-ups that are supported. The Foundation will not become a board member nor sit on one of the operative committees of the start-ups that are supported.

The Lichtsteiner Foundation connects donors, other foundations, start-ups and pioneers.Through our network we match potential investors with start-ups and with sources of innovative projects.
Our trendsetting impact investment makes us an attractive platform and we develop and tailor stories about the projects we have supported in order to persuade additional donors to invest.
